Axia Brand Information
Axia-Packed Preparative HPLC and SFC Columns
The Axia preparative column packing technology offers increased sorbent bed density and eliminates media bed collapse as a source of premature column failure that is often found in traditionally packed preparative HPLC and SFC columns. This translates into increased purification performance and more reproducible column-to-column performance. See the Advantages of Axia HPLC/SFC Column Technology! »

The Axia™ Prep Column Advantage
An advanced column packing and hardware design, Axia incorporates patented Hydraulic Piston Compression Technology to eliminate bed collapse as a source of failure in preparative columns. Ideal bed density is custom calculated and automated for each support, chemistry, and column size.
Computer control of the entire process assures both proper bed density and uniformity everytime. Using a single, controlled hydraulic compression, the piston assembly is locked in place without allowing the media to decompress or “relax”, thus maintaining media and column bed integrity. Recompression of the bed is not required, as it is for other packing methodologies.
Axia is patented by Phenomenex. U.S. Patent No. 7,674,383
The Axia™ Guarantee
If Axia™ packed columns do not provide at least an equivalent separation as compared to a competing preparative column of the same particle size, same phase and dimensions, return the column with comparative data within 45 days for a FULL Refund. Only applies to 21.2 mm Id columns.
Learn More About Axia
Innovative Packing and Hardware Technology
Axia columns are packed in a single axial compression step. This eliminates any decompression or "relaxation" of the sorbent and solves common problems associated with conventional packing processes for preparative columns.
The Axia packing method is completely automated and monitored by multiple sensors which allow measurement and recording of all process parameters for every column.
The result is an improved, more repeatable packing process, that offers the following benefits for Prep chromatographers:
- Elimination of media collapse
- Long column lifetimes
- Efficiencies and peak symmetries on par with analytical separations
Reproducible Prep Column-to-Column Efficiency
Average Efficiency (N) with Synergi 4 µm Hydro-RP 100 x 21.2 mm
Reproducible Column-to-Column Peak Asymmetry
Average Peak Asymmetry with Gemini 5 µm C18 50 x 21.2 mm
The separation characteristics of each Phenomenex media/ brand offer a unique selectivity for each type of application. These selectivities can offer significant gains in purity and loadability leading to increased yields and improved economy.
